Turkey/Syria Support Effort | Global Mobility

With a heavy heart, the team at Madison Marcus offers its support and sincerest condolences to the Turkish and Syrian communities of Australia and its leaders. The news of the devastating earthquakes this yesterday morning in Turkey and in Syria is shocking. The widespread destruction and growing number of people killed are alarming. Sadly, the mortality is expected to continue to climb. The freezing conditions will also hamper rescue efforts.

Following discussions with our Madison Marcus Global Mobility team, it is widely agreed that a collective and immediate effort is required and possible;

According to Oxfam, Southern Turkey is most affected, especially areas in the region of Gaziantep and Hatay/Antakya. These are major hubs for NGOs that have traditionally supported Syria through cross-border humanitarian operations. The earthquake also hit areas in North West Syria, which continue to be heavily affected by conflict and host the majority of the 6.7 million Syrians who have been displaced in the past decade. Oxfam is currently supporting 1.5 million people in Syria.

The International Committee of the Red Cross – ICRC and Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), the country’s largest humanitarian initiative, are now on the ground now, offering food and water: https://lnkd.in/gHZKZ6Np
