2022 Rising Star Jessica Kavvalos was exposed to a wide range of legal matters early in her career, including sports law, employment and contractual disputes. But it was commercial litigation to which she chose to focus following her admission to practice in July 2020.
She has helped out with Supreme Court litigation, such as complex shareholder disputes, settlement of proceedings, and preparation of settlement documents such as deeds of settlement and release. Over the years, Kavvalos has to come to understand that a successful outcome is determined not just by the judgment laid down, but by clients’ expectations and business requirements.
Kavvalos has since developed an interest in specialised matters relating to litigious disputes, debt recovery, defamation, contract disputes as well as Local, District, and Supreme Court litigation.
She began as a paralegal under Madison Marcus managing director Ramy Qutami, and she has remained with the firm’s commercial litigation and insolvency team in Sydney. She values cultivating strong relationships with both current and potential clients, and “always enjoys a challenge at work and beyond”.
